Do you want to be involved in the excitement of the Redcliffe Peninsula’s Premier Christmas Event???

The Redcliffe City Lights group began in 1998 to encourage residents to decorate their homes with Christmas lights and to provide tours so that housebound residents, the elderly and the disabled could enjoy the spectacle. The volunteer-led tours proved very popular for many years until it was wound up some ten years later.

In 2006, some of the organisers of Redcliffe City Lights, Beth Reid and Glyn Davies, decided to introduce a Christmas Comes to Scarborough Event. This inaugural event was wholly funded by sponsorships secured from businesses and individuals, market applications, and commissions from the carnival rides, and included a Christmas street parade, markets area, carnival rides, carols by candlelight, fireworks and a Christmas lighting display, all organised by volunteers. It was a huge success!

In June 2008 our group of volunteers decided to incorporate and so it is now called ‘Scarborough Lights up Redcliffe Inc.’ The Committee intentionally made sure that the word ‘Redcliffe’ was in the name of the association so as to show representation for the whole of the Redcliffe Peninsula.

Since 2006, the Scarborough Lights Christmas Events have attracted hundreds of thousands of people to Scarborough on the Redcliffe Peninsula during the Christmas School Holiday periods. Many visitors to the Peninsula over this time use the Scarborough Lights Events as a base to explore the area and to take advantage of the wonderful tourist, accommodation, retail and dining opportunities available right across the whole Peninsula.

The addition of the Scarborough Lights website in 2008 has helped to provide locals and visitors to the Peninsula with information on our Events and also information on the local area. This website is also advertised by the Moreton Bay Regional Council during this period. Our website receives heavy traffic right throughout the Christmas holiday season. It is also used to promote all our wonderful sponsors who help to provide such a rich and exciting program. If you become a Sponsor, a link to your website can be placed noting your Sponsorship.

For the whole month of December up to mid-February, the Scarborough precinct will be lit up every night with a spectacular festive light display with ‘Crystal Rain’ lights installed in the trees lining Landsborough Avenue.

Scarborough Lights will also install their TEN decorated 3-metre tall Christmas Trees along Landsborough Avenue that will be on display right throughout December school holidays. There is space at the base of each Christmas Tree to attach signage with Sponsors logos, in recognition of their support.

This will make Scarborough a must-see destination for those looking at Christmas Lights and will bring people to Scarborough right throughout December and beyond.

A Sponsorship Board will be set up by early December and will be on display on site right throughout December to give Sponsors the recognition they deserve during this busy holiday season. We expect the events organised by the Moreton Bay Regional Council and MBRIT, together with our Scarborough Christmas Lights, to again attract over 50,000 visitors from all over South East Queensland throughout December, complimenting the existing Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Christmas activities.
